Jurassic Park- Summary

I gaurentee most people have already seen this epic movie, but im still gonna give a good summary anyway because I love this movie and my grade will probably go down if I didn't.
Jurassic Park is about a genetic engineering company called InGen, headed by Mr. John Hammond, who has found out a way to clone dinosaurs. This company mined created the dinosaurs by cloning genetic material found in mosquitoes that fed on dinosaur blood, preserved in Dominican amber. Genetic sequence gaps found in this DNA is filled in with the DNA of frogs. The company creates a park on the island of Isla Nubar, 120 miles off the coast of Costa Rica. They have fenced in areas where all of the dinosaurs are kept and a vehicular tour of the park for guests shows them the entire park. Guests on the inspection tour of the park include paleontologist Alan Grant, paleobotanist Ellie Sattler, chaos theorist Ian Malcolm, Hammonds investors' attorney Donald Gennaro, as well as Hammond's grandchildren, Tim and Alexis "Lex" Murphy. Employees left on the park are Hammond himself, game warden Robert Muldoon, chief engineer Ray Arnold, and leading computer programmer Dennis Nedry The tour comes to an abrupt halt when Dennis Nedry plants a virus in the computer system to shut the security system down so he can smuggle DNA samples out to give to another company. All throughout the movie, the characters are running from the dinosaurs that broke out from their fenced in paddocks. In the end Hammond, his grand children, Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm are the only ones left alive on the island. They are then air lifted out of the park by an InGen company helicopter.
Devil Wears Prada- Mini Review.

Meryl Streep's impressive performance in "The Devil Wears Prada" was amazing, to say the least. Her tag team acting with co-star Anne Hathaway, Streep's 2nd assistant, gave an interesting rendition to the inside of the fashion world. In the 2006 movie, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, is the fashion goddess who runs the highly acclaimed Runway Magazine. Her new assistant Andrea 'Andy' Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, is hired as the second assistant to Mrs. Priestly, however she could care less about the all important fashion magazine. She eats whatever she wants and wears clothes that are shunned upon by the Priestly's entourage. Throughout the movie Mrs. Priestly puts her new assistant through hell, eventually evolving her into one of her followers. The movie has a lot of twists and turns but in the end it is interesting with a twist of comedy.

Website
I'm commenting on Tom Grant's website. I liked his site very much. The colors flowed well and also there was a nice feel to it that made you interested. It was very well put together and thought out. I liked how the tabs were obvious to what they linked to and also on the blog tab there was a link to his class blog, making it easy. Each tab had its own explanation as to what it was talking about and make it easier to understand what you were looking at. The one problem i ran into was i could not view the video of the Visual Literacy Narrative. The only other problem i ran i saw was that there wasn't many pictures to look at...other than that, it was great.

AD

My add, I think, is extremely funny. The entire add is about Mr. and Mrs. Potato head in an extremely nice car, driving down a long road with a lot of twists and turns. Mrs. Potato head is nagging Mr. Potato head, as most wives usually do, and at one point he doesn't see a flock of sheep crossing the road. She screams and he slams on the break, coming to a complete stop just before hitting the herd. This is because he has Bridgestone high performance tires on his high-end car.
The argument for this ad is the fact that the car might not have been able to stop in time if he did not have those tires on his car. That is the main reason you should by them. In addition, the tires look good and would give your car a nice sharp look. Because of these two fact, this ad is more pointed towards men than women.
Some funny things in the ad are the fact that the wife is nagging the husband about how fast he is going and also that he doenst know where he is going. This leads to him loosing concentration on the road and almost gets in an accident. This is a main stereotype in the common world and most men know this.

Reading

This last reading was very interesting to me. The reading was about how kids are taught differently depending on where they live and what social class they were in. One example they gave was how kids in the lower class schools were taught how to do division. They were taught the different names of things like product and quotient, but this was the last they were taught these terms. They were just taught how to actually to division and not the names of everything. I figured this is because those kids in the lower classes are never going to need that information because they are probably not going to go any higher than high school and kids in the upper classes, in better schools, got taught everything because they were going to go to a betters schools. This surprised me because i figured that kids in better schools had better resources but i didn't that they were actually taught differently.

Project
For this project i have chosen to do a DVD. Since there is a few very diverse parts of my life this project is going to be very odd looking. I was thinking of doing the collage on the front of the dvd in a desending order of how they happened so the last thing should be tech and tech related stuff. On the back i am going to put my parents and people as the cast and a story line about my life and how each person played a role in where i am. Also i was thinking on the inside jacket i was gonna put a chapter list that corresponds with the pics on the front.

Embarrassment
I really didn't like the first reading this week. It was extremely sad. I mean how can you be embarrassed of your parents. I do understand where the kid was coming from because they didn't speak english very well but that would cause me to try and work with them so they did learn english. I mean that kid got to the point where he was very good at speaking english so he wouldn't have had much trouble teaching his parents. Also i think it was bad that he was embarrassed that they weren't very educated. I mean my grandfather didn't go to college and he was very successful so I guess it depends on who you are. My grand father also couldn't speak english very well and my father helped him get to a point where he was ok at it. I think this bonding experience helped them get closer. I guess this is why I don't understand why the author didn't help his parents.

Why I hate the Semicolon
Although i really don't like the topic of this project, I do think it is a good idea. This project causes us to sorta bond over it and learn more about each other. I thought it was fun, but I cant say too much until we get our grades. Did i mention that I hate the semicolon. I mean honestly how many uses are there and its gonna be hard to fill up eight whole minutes. I think it was a good move to utilize a video in our presentation to suck up some of the time. Also, we have an activity. I cant say too much because that will ruin the surprise but there is an activity as well as the PowerPoint slide show. My hope is by the end of this project that everybody in the class will be able to correctly use the semicolon. I think most people use it wrong and because they don't know how to use it then they just don't. This really sucks because it is a very good writing tool.
In case you don't know how to properly use the semicolon there is a video below that will show you thanks to YouTube.

"Did You Know?"
I actually loved this video. I love hearing all of these facts and statistics about the world and how it is progressing. The music made it also. It goes on to talk about how many people were born in 8 seconds and where they are from as well as what their experience of the world might be like. After that i was suprised to find out that it is projected that China will have the most english speaking people in the world. Then it ties into the technology of the world and how it will be exponentially growoing in the next few years. This stuff amazes me because you never really think about it but when someone puts it infront of you and shows it to you are blown away. I watched some of the other videos that are related to this one and they are great also.

Malcolm X- My Reaction
I liked the excerpt from Malcolm X's autobiography. I was surprised to see that he taught himself how to read and write better through a dictionary. I mean its not like he had anything else to do but, that just shows us the will he had to learn. Also I was really surprised to see how, due to the fact that he could not read well, did not know about most of the worlds history. All of us take reading for granted but people that can't read really don't know what they're missing.
When he first started reading about slavery, he was appalled at what he read. I think this one action alone helped him become the major figure head that he is today.
